Senate told FBR pays Rs381m rent for 3,640 buildings

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue informed the Senate that it has been paying Rs381 million as rent for about 3,640 building – 98 for offices and 3,542 for the accommodation of its employees across the country, on monthly basis.

Speaking in the Senate on half of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, State Minister for Education, Training and Standards for Higher Education Balighur Rehman informed that the FBR had hired 98 buildings on rent across the country, adding that these buildings had been hired as per rules of the Ministry of Housing and Works.

Of the total 98 buildings hired for housing the FBR office, 76 buildings have been hired in Islamabad and Punjab and Rs8.1 million has been paid as its rent on monthly basis; five buildings have hired in Sindh province against Rs2.9 million monthly rent, 12 buildings in KPK province for Rs333,710 per month; four buildings have been hired in Balochistan for Rs86,720 monthly rent and Rs44,440 is being paid for one building hired in Bilgit-Baltistan,” the minister elaborated on.

To a question put up by a Senator, Balighur Rehman said that the government had been endeavoring to have its own buildings but currently there was no such policy.

The minister maintained that out of the total 3,542 buildings hired for residential accommodation of FBR employees across the country, 2,039 buildings were in Islamabad and Punjab, 1,109 buildings in Sindh, 213 buildings were in KPK and 181 buildings were in Balochistan and the FBR had been paying Rs369 million as rent (Without elaborating whether the amount id being paid on monthly basis).

Reply to a query about payment of hiring to employees, the minister said that it was being paid as per rules of the Ministry of Housing and Works according to the cadre of the employees.
