FBR seeks report from field formations about actions taken against WHT agents

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has asked field formations to provide the list of show cause notices issued to withholding tax agents and action taken against them during the tax year 2018-19, it is learnt here.

Official sources told Customs Today that FBR earlier directed all field formations to take action against those withholding tax agents who are failed to pay withholding tax and advised the field formations to issue show cause notices to these withholding tax defaulters under Section 16 and 205 of Income Tax Ordinance 2001.

Sources added that while sending official letters to all field formations, the board has now directed to provide the list of show cause notices issued and also progress of recovery and action taken against withholding tax defaulters. The board has asked field formations several times regarding the withholding tax progress report but it was not provided and now the Board for the fourth time has asked field formations, sources confirmed.

Sources said that the board has also launched information technology management system to monitor real-time tax collection received under various sections of withholding tax from withholding agents. The system has the capability to analyze current withholding data with past withholding collections simultaneously.
