Finland Producer prices down by 2.3% in Jan

HELSINKI: Producer prices for manufactured products fell by an average of 2.3 per cent year-on-year in January 2016, according to Statistics Finland. The producer prices for manufactured products sold on the domestic market went down by 2.0 per cent, while the producer prices of export products fell by 2.8 per cent.

The fall in the producer prices for manufactured products was particularly caused by reductions in the prices of oil products, manufacturing of basic metals and chemicals and chemical products from January 2015.The fall in producer prices was slowed down especially by higher prices of paper and paper board products and electricity, the data show.

The export price index fell by 2.8 per cent and the import price index by 5.7 per cent in the year. The Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply went down by 2.6 per cent while the Basic Price Index including taxes fell by 1.9 per cent as per the statistics.

Export prices were in particular depressed by the falling prices of manufacturing of basic metals and oil products from January 2015. The fall in prices was slowed down especially by higher prices of paper and paper board products. The fall in import prices was in turn especially caused by lower prices of oil products and manufacturing of basic metals compared with the previous year’s January.

The fall in prices was slowed down, in particular, by higher prices of electricity. The producer prices for manufactured products fell by 0.6 per cent from December to January.  The drop was mainly due to lower prices of oil products from the previous month.
