The number of enterprise openings decreased by 8.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2015 from the respective quarter of the year before, according to Statistics Finland. During the time, there were 8,595 enterprise openings. In the fourth quarter of 2014, the number of enterprise closures was up by 2.9 per cent on the corresponding quarter of the year before.
Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most numerous in professional, scientific and technical activities and enterprise closures were most numerous in trade. Enterprise openings accounted for 2.5 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the first quarter of 2015. The number of enterprise openings in professional, scientific and technical activities was 1,435, or 16.7 per cent of all enterprise openings in the first quarter. In trade, enterprise openings numbered 1,382 (16.1%) and in construction 1,070 (12.4%). Examined by sub-regional unit, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (2,905), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (640) and Turku (537).
