HELSINKI: The value of Finland’s exports fell by 10 percentage points in March from that of the same month in 2015. According to the Customs statistics, the total exports in March 2016 were valued at approximately Euro 4.4 billion. According to Customs, the sharp decline is partly explained by the strength of exports in March last year. The steepest declines in value were seen in exports of refined oil and other chemical products, and industrial machinery.
The trade deficit in March was 265 million euros. From the beginning of the year, the trade deficit has risen to 810 million euros. Both exports and imports to and from EU countries in March slipped by eight percentage points. Exports to non-EU countries fell by 13 percentage points. The strongest declines were seen in exports to the United Kingdom and China. Imports declined by eight percentage points in March, with a value of slightly more than 4.6 million euros.
