HELSINKI: Despite the economic recession, Finland’s exports in 2014 were almost on par with the previous year, 2013. Trade was kept up by growth in exports to EU countries and especially to Germany, while exports to countries outside the European Union and Russia decreased.
According to Finnish Customs statistics, the value of exports amounted to almost 55.8 billion euros for 2014. The value of imports declined by one percent over the previous year and totalled 57.6 billion euros in 2014.
For export, top growth sectors included transport equipment and mobile technology products. Meanwhile, machinery and equipment as well as chemical industry products exports decreased. The forest industry and metal industry products remained at roughly the same level as in 2013.
In 2014 exports to the eurozone grew six percent over the previous year, while exports to non-EU countries shrank by five percent.
