HELSINKI: Tax returns must be filed no later than either on May 7, or next on May 13. The exact date can be found on the pre-filled tax return form. The tax administration points out that the tax return must be inspected, whether one expects a refund or not. If the return is not filed before the deadline, the tax administration will assume the pre-filled data to be correct.
Tax returns were sent out for five million taxpayers this year. Approximately €1.4 million in taxes are returned or corrected every year. Tax returns can now be checked online at www.vero.fi. Login requires banking details. If there is an error in the tax return, the updated information can be sent again by post. Tax rebates are paid into accounts in December, when residual taxes are also paid.
