Five sectors availing concessional gas rates, LHC informed

LAHORE: Commissioner Inland Revenue (CIR) said that textile sector, leathers sector, surgical sector, carpet and sports sectors are availing the concessional rates of gas in manufacturing of their products. Dr Ishtique Ahmed was arguing in Lahore High Court (LHC).

During hearing of the case on 30.8.2019, the counsel for the appellant argued before the court that glass industry contributes billion of rupees in national exchequer on export of glass items. besides heavy contribution in the economy government not providing the subsidized gas rates to the glass manufacturing sector.

Anwar Hussain, the counsel from Sui Gas told the court that subsidized rates of gas approved by the economic coordination committee and it is not authorized by the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited.

Adding more, appellant should plead before the relevant forum, he prayed that appeal may be barred.

On the other side, commissioner Income Tax inform the Lahore High Court those availing the concessional gas rate and CIR told that currently five sectors are using the subsidized rates of gas.

After hearing arguments from all parties court has issued notice to the Federal Government and seeks reply on 2rd September.
