BARCELONA: A Spanish judge has ruled that star footballer of Argentina Lionel Messi will have to undergo trial for alleged tax evasion.
The Spanish judge did not accept a prosecution recommendation to let him go since Messi’s father was looking after his finances. The tax authorities accused Messi and his father Jorge of defrauding the authorities of more than 4m euros or £3.1m; $5m and that they withheld the money between 2007 and 2009 from income of Messi’s image rights.
