LONDON: The newly-established Ford Performance has announced it will launch 12 models by 2020. Fans already know the identity of four cars (Focus RS, GT, F-150 Raptor and Mustang GT350) while details about the other eight are scarce at the moment.

Ford Fiesta RS may be among these future models, as Autocar has learned from Ford Performance manager Tyrone Johnson. The executive confirmed the company is working on a new, higher-performance version of the Fiesta that could theoretically be a Ford Performance product.

He didn’t say whether it will be a replacement for the current ST or a full-blown RS version but he did specify the car will be based on the current chassis which means it will be out probably in 2017 or so. The decision to create a beefier Fiesta was fuelled by the success of the ST variant which went on sale in 2013.

Added information, Johnson said the Ford Focus ST diesel will get a dual-clutch Power shift automatic transmission before the end of this-year. The company hasn’t decided yet whether the gasoline version will receive the gearbox because they are not sure there’s enough demand for such a model.
