Former Singapore Customs officer charged with corruption

SINGAPORE: Jonathan Sasayiah, a former customs investigation officer was caught involving in a shameful act when he persuaded a woman possessing contraband cigarettes, to get pleasure by doing intimating act with him, and in return he will not disclose her crime.

According to the charge, Jonathan Sasayiah, 28, attempted to obtain gratification in the form of intimate acts from Ms Nursusilla Kassim. In return, he would show leniency to her for being in possession of contraband cigarettes.

“Law enforcement officers are vested with the authority to clamp down on illicit activities in Singapore. Any law enforcement officer who even attempts to abuse this authority for personal and corrupt gains will face severe consequences,” the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said.

CPIB added Singapore has a “zero tolerance approach” towards corruption, and will not hesitate to take action against any party involved in such acts.

If convicted, the former Customs officer faces a jail term of up to five years and a fine not more than S$100,000, or both.
