CAIRO: Four ports in Suez governorate closed due to bad weather and a sandstorm that has covered Egypt, announced Red Sea Port Authority Spokesperson Abdel Rahim Mustafa .
The closed ports are Ain Sokhna for the transfer of containers, Adabia for goods transfer, Zeiteyat for petroleum product transfer, and the Port Tawfik for passengers, the statement said.
Mustafa stated that no vessels awaiting outside the Adabia and Ain Sokhna ports, noting that the ports will reopen when the sandstorm passes.
An unseasonal sandstorm has hit the Middle East in Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan, and Palestine, causing poor visibility. Two Lebanese women died and dozens have suffered breathing problems, AP reported.
In Upper Egypt’s Minya, Nile ferry movement and fishery boats stopped due to the bad weather. Sharm el-Sheikh-Tor Sinai Highway closed as well.
Three flights from and to Sharm el-sheikh and Hurghada Airports and Cairo International Airport have been cancelled; and six others for petroleum companies delayed.
However, aviation movement is operating normally in Borg al-Arab International, Youm7 reported.
Egyptian Metrology Authority announced that the sandstorm would end Wednesday afternoon.
