FLORIDA: As president of the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FSHCC), I work every day to promote the economic advancement of over 400,000 Hispanic businesses in Florida. Innovation in healthcare is paramount to keeping costs low for businesses. We are continuously looking for more streamlined and effective options when making healthcare choices with our doctors.
An example of an innovative technology is Cardio MEMS that allows a doctor to remotely monitor heart failure patients. Heart disease is the number one cause of death for all Americans; however, Hispanics face even higher risks of cardiovascular diseases due to factors such as access to health care. Among Mexican American adults alone, for example, 34.4 percent of women and 31.6 percent of men suffer from cardiovascular disease.
