HELSINKI: German company Meyer will invest €10m on Finland’s Turku shipyard in 2015, and Turku’s shipyards are set to undergo major renovations, which are set to invest more of millions of euro into the Finnish shipyard in coming years, tells YLE.
The company is currently carrying out an investigation into what areas of the shipyard need most attention during repairs, Meyer tells to YLE. Meyer is hoping that Turku’s vast expertise in vessels running on liquefied natural gas will attract new ship orders. Meyer believes that LNG is the “fuel of the future” for ferries as well as for bigger cruise ships.
The Turku shipyard is currently finishing off the construction of a 300 meter cruiser, which is going by the name ”Mein Schiff 4”, and it will be joined by two sister ships numbered five and six. All three ships will be constructed in Turku.
