The company unveiled the advanced BigDog in March, 2013 which can carry heavy objects over mountains and through streams and has arms able pick up all manner of objects.

Now Boston Dynamics has created a more advanced little brother for BigDog.

With Spot there are all the same features BigDog but on a robot 34kg lighter.

Spot is able to run up and turn around on steep gradients without losing its balance and it can climb stairs with ease thanks to it “sensor head”.

And as master of balance, Spot can take a hard kicking in its electronic guts and still stay standing.

And although spot has no feelings, you can’t help but feel sorry for the bot when it’s kicked.

The smaller robot dog can operate inside and out and its creators hope it could be used in the near future in search-and-rescue operations and assisting in disaster zones.

Spot is just the latest addition to the expanding and exciting universe of robotics.

Take a look through for more mechanical marvels.
