Google sets Android 5.0.1Lollipop in motion, factory images revealed for WiFi-only devices

TOKYO: Google has pushed out an updated build of Android Lollipop to the Android Open Source Project. Albeit a minor version number increase, Android 5.0.1 is now showing up in AOSP, carrying the build number LRX22C. While it’s unclear exactly what has changed in this build from the initial Android 5.0 release, we don’t expect too many noticeable additions, with most of the improvements likely coming in the form of under-the-hood bug fixes.

In addition to pushing Android 5.0.1 release 1 to AOSP, Google also this evening published the factory images for the Nexus 9, 2013 WiFi-only Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. Note that these are all WiFi devices, meaning that Google is probably still working on builds for devices with cellular radios, including the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6.

It has also been widely rumored today that Google is planning to release Android 5.0.1 for Android Wear soon, as well. That update is said to focus on battery life improvements for its wearables.

We should expect over-the-air updates to start to roll-out relatively soon to the WiFi Nexus 7, Nexus 9, and Nexus 10. In the meantime, Google is presumably still fine-tweaking the cellular builds and preparing them for a roll-out, as well.
