Govt collected Rs250b GIDC in five years

ISLAMABAD: The government has collected Rs 250 billion on account of gas infrastructure development cess (GIDC) during the last five years

However, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources has yet to collect Rs 130 billion from various companies including fertilizer and CNG sectors they owe from January 2012 to March 2017.

The ministry told this to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reform, which was met with Abdul Majeed Khan Khanan Khail in the chair at Parliament Lodges. The committee discussed the issues relating to PSDP-2016-17 and audit report of Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform, besides other things.

An official of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources told the committee, “If we include Rs 130 billion amount from various companies which are in litigation then the amount would become Rs 380 billion from January 2012 to March 2017.” He said that a total of Rs 25 billion have been allocated for Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline project, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Pipeline project and Gwadar-Nawabshah Gas Pipeline Project.
