ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources has prepared a comprehensive plan on mining‚ cutting‚ polishing and marketing of gemstones with a view to enhance their exports.
Geological Survey of Pakistan has made preliminary geological exploration on various gemstones present in the country. Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company‚ a subsidiary of Ministry of Industries and Production‚ is working to enhance productivity of entire value-chain from mine to market through facilitation‚ technology up-gradation‚ skill development‚ and marketing and branding.
The government is also training locals of gem bearing areas‚ including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‚ Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan‚ in gemology and gemstone mining on scientific lines.
