FAISALABAD: Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association Central Chairman Khalil Qaisar Shams, Zonal Chairman Akram Pasha and Zonal Vice Chairman Adnan Zahid Butt demanded that the government ensure continuous supply of electricity and gas to textile industry to boost the country’s exports.
They said that the textile industry was the backbone of Pakistan’s economy which earned 60 percent of foreign exchange and provided livelihood to 38 percent work force, adding that millions of peoples were engaged on supply chain, both wholesale and retail sides.
They said the local level business activity would not be boosted with an increase in productivity of the industry, but the textile exports would also get a shot in the arm and earn foreign exchange.
They said this was very crucial time for the textile industry as importers across the world planned to fill their stocks for Christmas. Fulfilling of Christmas orders was highly important to sustain Pakistan’s reputation as a textile exporting country at international level, they added.
Furthermore, it was importance to obtain maximum orders from European importers at upcoming Heimtextil Exhibition in Germany. They also pointed out that increased productivity was also essential to obtain benefits from GSP facility provided by European Union. The office-bearers pressed the government to ensure continuous supply of electricity and gas to textile sector on preferential basis to enable it to achieve the export target and earn maximum forex by strengthening Pakistan’s economy.
