HONG KONG: Hong Kong customs officials seized a whopping 16.9 kilos of suspected cocaine – with an estimated street value of HKD18 million – in Wan Chai, Mong Kok and Tin Shui Wai.
Customs officers intercepted a 41-year-old man in Wan Chai, who was casually carrying 5.8 kilos of the white stuff in his “handbag”, as described in a police statement.
The man was arrested at the scene, and the police later found another 100 grams of cocaine on his person and in his home.
After investigating further, officers arrested another man, 29, in Tsim Sha Tsui.
The second man was “escorted” to a Mong Kok storage unit, where 10.4 kilos of cocaine was found, and then “escorted” to a Tin Shui Wai hotel, where 600 grams of cocaine was discovered.
The two arrestees claim to be unemployed.
Trafficking in a dangerous drug can be punished by life imprisonment and a HKD5-million fine.
