HONG KONG: Hong Kong Customs seized about 4.64 kilograms of suspected ketamine and 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point with a market value of about $558,000 here the other day.
Customs officers intercepted an incoming female passenger at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point yesterday morning and found the suspected drugs inside a backpack carried by her. Customs officers arrested the woman at the scene. Upon follow-up investigation, Customs officers arrested another man suspected to be involved in the case in Sheung Shui.
The 20-year-old woman and the 26-year-old man, claiming to be a student and unemployed respectively, were arrested for suspected trafficking in a dangerous drug.
The case is still under investigation.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
