COLOMBIA: A woman who attempted to smuggle 1.5 kilograms of liquid cocaine in her breast implants was caught at Dorado International Airport in Colombia on June 20.

The 22-year-old Honduran woman was on her way to Barcelona, Spain, when airport authorities became suspicious of her.

Colonel Diego Rosero told reporters that Paolo Deyanira Sabillon apparently caught the attention of airport police when she began to act nervously in a security line.

After the suspect was X-rayed, police discovered she had a recent breast surgery. Sabillon confessed that an unknown substance had been implanted in her breasts, and that she was instructed to go to the northern area of Barcelona upon arriving in Spain.

Further investigation revealed that Sabillon had her breast implants done in a “backstairs” clinic in Pereira, western Colombia.

Police took her to a hospital in Bogota where the implants were removed. She also received treatment for infection, which could have been caused by the implants.

The 1.5-kilogram liquid cocaine retrieved from the implants was estimated to be worth $47,000.

This is not the first time that smugglers have tried to hide cocaine in breast implants. In 2012, Barcelona police caught a Panamanian woman with several bags of powdered cocaine stuffed inside the skin of her breast, similar to a breast implant, Daily Mail Online reported.

The police became suspicious of the Panamanian woman because she was “acting funny.” They took her in and found a bandage covering her chest that was soaked with blood. She later on confessed that bags of cocaine were hidden within her breasts. She was taken to a hospital where the cocaine was removed.

Authorities said removing the cocaine probably saved her life, as her body would not have been able to withstand the cocaine bags implanted in her breasts.
