After 2 weeks of preorders of Huawei’s latest flagship products, the first batch of P8s became available in 28 shops across Myanmar on 6 June 2015. By 10am that morning all P8s had been sold out.

The regional sales manager from one of phone shop noted that the P8 has set a new sales record and has become the best-selling handset in their shop’s history and that they were amazed by the number of preorders. “I am pretty sure that sales of the P8 will be a hit this year.”

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer BG, said that Southeast Asia is one of the key markets for Huawei, and the company is very optimistic about the potential of this region, which is why Huawei is hosting the Southeast Asia launch event so soon after the global launch last month.

“Southeast Asia is one of the most promising and high-potential economic entities in the world, both now and in the future. It is regarded as a strategic market and an engine driving the fast growth of Huawei’s Consumer Business. In 2014, Huawei saw over 10 million total shipments in this region. With the launch of the P8, P8Max and P8Lite this year, we expect total shipments to reach 8 million units, a 167% increase,” said Richard.

The company has seen substantial growth in regional shipments in the region. Thomas Liu, President of Huawei Consumer Business Group Southeast Asia said: “Data from our recent report shows that 2015Q1 smartphone shipments in the Southeast Asia achieved a 120% increase compared to last year.”
