Hyderabad Customs foils bid to smuggle Indian gutka near Matiari

HYDERABAD: Collectorate of Customs enhanced the checking on the main routes of the city. Due to strict measures, the customs authorities foiled an attempt of smuggling in the second week of November 2018.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Khalid Hussain Jamali received a tip-off that some smugglers are trying to smuggle huge quantity of Indian gutka of different brands concealed in stone marbles. He immediately constituted a Customs team comprising Inspector Zulfiqar Ali Jamali and others who took part in the operation.

The customs team established some pickets at the main entry and exit points of the National Highway Hyderabad. During the checking of the vehicles, customs team intercepted a Hino truck 10 wheeler bearing registration no: NAA-705 near Matiari.

During search the team recovered 443 bags, 2220100 sachets of Indian origin gutka, different brands JND, Safina Z-21, JM, and other Gutka, made-in-India 1200 pieces of marble including impounds 10 wheeler Hino truck.

The officials impounded the items and truck and registered a case against the accused under the customs bylaws 2 (s) 16 and 157 section of customs Act 1969 punishable under the customs (89) of section 156 (1) of the customs Act 1969.

Collector Khalid Hussain Jamali and Additional Collector Dr Aamer Nawaz Hamid appreciated the performance of their subordinates.
