Hyderabad Customs seized Rs198.75m worth smuggled items in FY 2014-15

HYDERABAD: Collector Customs Hyderabad Wasif Memon said that Model Customs Collectorate Hyderabad seized various smuggled items worth Rs 198.750 million during the current Fiscal Year of 2014-15, while speaking on the occasion of International Customs Day held at Custom House.

“Anti-Smuggling Staff carried out crackdowns against smuggling of goods including Iranian origin diesel,” he said. He added that the major seizures included foreign origin electronic goods, essential, perfumery, cosmetics, toilet preparation, ship oil, Q-Mobile, black tea, black pepper, cloth and others items. This performance showed 35 per cent increase against seizures made in corresponding period of last Fiscal Year 2013-14, he said.

All concerned officials were already directed to take a strict action against smugglers to curb the menace of smuggling in interest of the government revenue, he said. During recent two months December 2014 and January 2015, anti-smuggling operations have produced remarkable results by seizing 240,500 liters of smuggled HSD. Whereas, 454,240 liters of HSD has been confiscated during seven months of the current financial years 2014-15, which registered 6483 per cent increase as compared to corresponding period of last Fiscal Year 2013-14.
