Hyderabad Customs seizes Indian gutka, vehicle near Hatri Police Station

HYDERABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation team seized huge quantity of foreign origin Indian Gutka including Toyota Hiace being used for smuggling.

Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Customs Intelligence Shah Faisal Sahu received information that some smugglers are trying to smuggle huge quantity of non-duty paid Indian Gutka.

After receiving this information, he constituted a raiding team under the supervision of Customs Superintendent Tariq Rafique, Intelligence Officer Syed Shafique Ali and others. The team, during a search operation near Hatri Police Station intercepted a vehicle bearing registration no: JF- 7367. During search, the team recovered Indian gutka worth Rs 1.6 million.

Sources told that during another operation, the Hyderabad I&I team intercepted a trawlar bearing registration mo: LES 780 near Hatri police station and recovered betel nuts worth Rs 90,00,000.

Prior to the recovery of item, the officials asked the driver to produce documents regarding legal import of the goods but he could not prove anything.

After his failure, Customs I&I team seized the goods and after registering a case started further investigations.
