Hyundai to launch next-generation i20 crossover to India in April

MUMBAI: Hyundai India has decided to launch it new next-generation crossover i20 to Indian markets by April 2015. Coming to the engines, the i20 Active will get the same powertrains as the i20. The petrol model will get a 1.2-litre unit that is good for 82bhp and 115Nm. The diesel model, on the other hand, will get a 1.4-litre CRDi engine that churns out a maximum power output of 89bhp and 220Nm of peak torque.

The car has been spotted testing several times, A Twitter account holder, Abhijit More, has managed to click clear pictures of the upcoming car. These pictures have revealed some interesting details about the car including its name. The company has named it the i20 Active.

When compared to its hatchback sibling, the i20 Crossover gets slightly beefier exterior that give it a sporty appeal. The front fascia of the car gets a new skid plate, new bumper with large fog lamps, projector head-lights with daytime running lamps etc. The rear profile too receives changes in the form of new bumper with circular reflectors and silver skid plate. The i20 Active also gets a roof spoiler, roof rails, bigger alloys and additional plastic body cladding.

The car’s ground clearance too has been increased to help it handle uneven roads in a much better way. As far as the interior are concerned, the i20 Active is likely to get more features and a different upholstery than the hatchback. The vehicle might also get an updated infotainment system.
