IATF to take on crackdown on illegal petrol pumps

KARACHI: The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) has decided to initiate a “crackdown operation” on illegal petrol pumps, situated in and outside Karachi city.

A meeting of the high officials of MCC-Preventive, Pakistan Customs; Pakistan Rangers, Sindh Police, Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), Pakistan Coast Guards and Maritime Security Agency was held in Customs House, Karachi on Tuesday.

Additional Collector, Headquarters-I Shafqat Ali Khan Niazi, Major Gen. Rizwan Akhtar of Pakistan Rangers, Shahid Hayat Additional IG and other officers attended the meeting.

During the meeting, it was decided that a grand operation would be launched against illegal petrol pumps located at National Highway, Super Highway and Northern Bypass.

The sources informed Customs Today that a line of action has been chalked out in order to demolish the illegal petrol pumps and curb smuggling of Iranian petrol and diesel.

“Five to six teams comprising LEAs officials including Pakistan Customs, Pakistan Rangers, Police, ANF, Coast Guards and Maritime Security Agency have been formed in the first phase to initiate crackdown against illegal petrol pumps”, sources added.

They further said that the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Pakistan Customs with the collaboration of other LEAs would launch operation against the smuggling bids in deep sea.

They further said that the recent meeting of IATF officials was held in the backdrop of the current visit of Chairman FBR, Tariq Bajwa in which he had stressed upon taking decisive action in order to curb smuggling and increase revenue.
