FPCCI presidential contender says Pakistan needs to change image of import-based country to export-oriented country
KARACHI: Mian Idrees, contender for presidential slot of the Federal Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), has hailed the government for exempting industry from power load shedding.
He said that the business community has welcomed the decision of zero load-shedding for the industry. He said that the decision would increase the industrial growth which would ultimately improve the country’s economic condition.
Idrees said that the government has taken a timely decision to control the widening trade deficit because Pakistan needed to increase its exports throughout the world.
He said further Pakistan needed to change its image from an import-based country to an export-oriented country, adding that the country has an enormous potential to enter Asian, European and US markets.
He said that the European Union has granted GSP Plus status, and exporters were asking for electricity and gas, this decision would give them an amazing opportunity to increase their exports to the European market.
He said that the uninterrupted electricity and gas supply for the industries were imperative, as without these facilities, the country could not increase its industrial growth, adding that it was need of the hour to increase power generation of the country. He urged the government to complete all power projects timely.
He said that projects such as Dassu and Diamer-Bhasha dams would add cheaper energy to the national grid, adding that the power projects with China would also add on-time energy to the country.
Idrees was of the view that progress and prosperity of Pakistan lied in the uplift of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He assured the business community of Balochistan that their problems would be taken up on the FPCCI and they would be raised and highlighted at every level. He would also present a solution of these problems so that Balochistan and KP could progress like other parts of the county.
