LAHORE: Indian Government has requested the Pakistani Government to increase the number of items allowed under the Line of Control (LoC) trade protocols from 21 to at least 40.

Cross border trade between India and Pakistan continues to flourish peacefully. Recently, more than 25 truckloads of bananas from India and ten truckloads of dry fruits from Pakistan crossed over, facilitating a huge volume of trade between the neighbours.

Sources added that trade is thriving as from Indian side, 25 vehicles are crossing over LoC on a daily basis while Pakistan is sending seven to ten.

Both the countries’ business communities have been striving hard to explore opportunities in each other’s countries. However, the core issues have proved to be a major impediment in the ways of trade development between the two countries.

Both the countries have been arranging Trade Shows in each other’s country. Recently India has exhibited its product in India Show in Pakistan while Pakistani traders have also crossed the border to exhibit their products in Pakistan Show in India.

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Sohail Lashari has said that trade between the two countries will flourish, however, it will take a quality time to reach a satisfactory point.

Recently, Pakistani Minister for trade and commerce Khurram Dastgir has said that in order to achieve sustainable economic growth in the region both the counties have to initiate open trade between the two countries.
