CHENNAI: Customs authorities at Chennai airport nabbed a Sri Lankan woman who was trying to smuggle in 250 sovereigns of gold from Dubai.
The accused, Juharia, arrived on an Emirates flight from Dubai. She was to proceed to Colombo from here. The authorities found gold hidden in her handbag. She confessed that she was a working as a courier.
The customs authorities in the city have stepped up vigil over gold smuggling and there have been a series of arrests and seizure of told in the last few months. Most of the arrested were couriers working for smugglers.
