NEW DELHI: The special cell of Delhi Police has busted a drug racket in the capital and seized 1kg of Alprazolam, 2.8kg heroin and an equal amount of opium. The seizure worth Rs 20 crore originated in Punjab and has narco-terrorism links, police said.
Alprazolam is an anti-depressant. DCP (special cell) Sanjeev Yadav confirmed in a statement that his team had arrested four members of this syndicate and recovered nine mobile phones and SIM cards. The arrested have been identified as Harjinder Singh alias Rindi (28) and Abu Bakr alias Ashwani from Punjab, Durgesh alias Mangal (33) from Laxmi Nagar and Ubah Amobi from Nigeria.
“Inspector Attar Singh’s team received information about activities of members of this syndicate in Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. They were under watch for three months during which period SI Praveen Rathi and his team developed intelligence and identify the members. Accordingly, a trap was laid near Burari Chowk and Mangal and Rindi were arrested while they were exchanging a consignment. Two kg of heroin was recovered from them,” Yadav added.
On his disclosure, Amobi was arrested from Vikaspuri and Abu Bakr from Seelampur. Bakr was taken to Punjab and his house was searched from where 500 grams of heroin was seized.
“Mangal revealed that he befriended Akhtar, the kingpin of the racket, while he was in jail in 2010 and began to peddle drugs on a large scale. Akhtar is yet to be arrested. He used to receive huge consignments of heroin from one Sehzad of Taimoor Nagar in Delhi,” Yadav added.
Sehzad is a big name among suppliers of narcotic drugs in Delhi. He used to get heroin from Afghan and Nigerian nationals in Delhi. He has been in this illegal trade for the past 10 years. The special cell had arrested Akhtar, along with Abdul Latif, (involved in the Rahul Mahajan case) in 2007. Police are on a lookout for him.
