NEW DELHI: Indian Commercial Taxes Intelligence has seized 7.3 kg of gold jewellery from two persons from North India after intercepting their car in the heart of the town here the other evening.
According to B.T. Varghese, Assistant Commissioner (Intelligence), they chased the car from Nagambadom and intercepted it at the roundtana on the basis of a tip-off.
The gold jewellery worth Rs.1.5 crore was being taken in the vehicle without any documents.
They have been issued a notice for a penalty and security deposit of Rs.39 lakh.
The jewellery, now under the custody of the department, would be released after the penalty is paid.
