NEW DELHI: Indian Customs has arrested two men with fake currency worth Rs 20 lakh at Delhi railway station.
Both the accused persons have been taken into police custody as the police are trying to gather more information regarding the origin of these notes.
Police sources that the duo were planning of smuggling the fake currency out of Delhi and they could be part of a huge racket which has been present in India for long now.
Delhi has over the years become an important transit point for fake currency. The Pakistan based operatives who print the notes in Muzzafarabad take it to the Karachi airport and fly it into Bangladesh.
From Bangladesh the notes are smuggled into India and makes a landing in Malda in West Bengal. The Malda module for the fake currency has become the primary hub from all fake currency is circulated across the country.
Investigations by the NIA have shown that there is a major market in Delhi for fake currency. There are a lot of hawala operatives in Delhi especially in the older parts who facilitate the circulation of fake currency apart from their main hawala business.
