NEW DELHI: Facebook’s mobile user base in India is likely to cross that of the U.S. by 2017. Until now, India was the second largest user of the social networking website from mobile phones. But a report produced by the market research firm, eMarketer, is claiming that the country’s mobile Facebook users will beat the U.S. user base within the next three years.

The report also claims that as many as 1 billion users will access Facebook from their handheld devices at least once a month this year. This figure has been presented based on users from across the world.

eMarketer’s report claims that mobile Facebook’s Indian users will cross a mark of 100 million for the first time this year. By 2017, this number will grow more than the number users of mobile Facebook in the U.S. While the U.S. is expected to hit a record of 123.1 million users this year, India would touch the 101.5 users mark. But according to the report, by 2017, the number of mobile Facebook users in India will start leading with 145.9 million and U.S. will follow with 138.8 million users.

In this matter, it is worth mentioning that Facebook had recently taken several steps to expand its presence in the Indian market. The company had fought to dive deeper into the Internet market of the country to lure more youth population.

Facebook had announced that its efforts had helped it raise the Indian user base to 112 million, which made India the second largest user of the social network, after the U.S. Among the 112 million users, over 45 million were recorded to be regular users of the mobile version of the social network. On the other hand, 99 million people use mobile as the main device to connect with their friends on Facebook at least once a month.
