IDUKKI: Seven persons have been arrested while trying to smuggle 50 kg of sandalwood at Marayur here.
Suresh, 27, Mariraj, 28, Prathap, 29, Raja, 27, belonging to Nooruveedu area, Mashilamani, 26, of Indira Nagar, Sibi, 31, Thankaraj, 29, both hailing from Pallanadu, and Sathyan of Pattam Colony were nabbed on late Saturday by officials of Marayur Flying Squad, Chinnar Forest and Wildlife Department and Marayur-Kanthallur Range Office.
On receiving a tip-off that a Maruti 800 car carrying sandalwood is going to Tamil Nadu, the officials searched a car parked near Marayur petrol pump at the Karimutti area and recovered around 50 kg of sandalwood roots.
