CHENNAI: The Renigunta police seized 220 kg of ganja worth Rs.30 lakh from a car, on the Chennai highway here the other day.
According to the police, while the forest officials at Puttur tried to intercept an Ambassador car (AP31W 0676), the driver sped past the check post towards Tirupati. The check-post staff alerted officials of the highway toll plaza at Vadamalapet and Gajulamandyam, where the police lay in wait.
On spotting a police team led by Renigunta Rural Inspector K. Sainath at the toll plaza, the car driver took a detour towards the factory. However, the police managed to nab the driver identified as Kuppaiah Malairajan of Madurai and seized the contraband, even as the other occupants fled the scene.
