NEW DELHI: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today said it seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of a face value of Rs 7.98 lakh, smuggled in from Bangladesh, from a passenger at Viskhapatnam railway station in Andhra Pradesh.
According to a DRI release quoting DRI Hyderabad Zonal Unit Additional Director General M K Singh, officers of its Visakhapatnam regional unit seized FICN of a face value of Rs 7.98 lakh at the Visakhapatnam Railway Station on June 23 from a passenger on the Guwahati-Bangalore Superfast Express, based on specific intelligence.
Interrogation of the passenger revealed that he was carrying FICN smuggled from Bangladesh to Bangalore for delivery there, the release stated.
The counterfeit currency, seized under the Customs Act, was in denominations of Rs 1,000 as well as Rs 500, and the passenger has been arrested, the release stated.
“He was produced before the court of Special Judge for Economic Offences, who remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days,” the senior DRI officer said in the release.
