Indian special force foils attempt to smuggle leopard skin, teeth

GREATER NOIDA: Indian Special Task Force (STF) recently foiled an attempt to smuggle leopard skin and teeth worth Rs 5-10 lakh and police has arrested two smugglers.

The accused have been identified as Mahesh Bhandari and Balram Singh Chauhan, both of Uttarakhand. Three leopard skins, teeth and nails have been recovered from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team was formed and asked to coordinate with wildlife NGO. During the investigation, police was tipped off that some smugglers, carrying skins and other parts of protected animals, would reach Greater Noida to meet associates.

“Senior police officials were put on alert. One of the teams noticed two suspicious people in Kasna police station area in Greater Noida, and detained and questioned them. When the police checked their bags they found failed a stash of skins, teeth and nails,” the official added.
