Indonesia police seize 5,000 ecstasy pills, meth

PEKANBARU: Pekanbaru Police Resort Station, Riau, confiscated 5,000 ecstasy pills and half a kilogram of methamphetamine from two drug dealers, the Head of Public Relation of Riau Police said today.

“Besides 5,000 ecstasy pills and half a kilogram of meth, the officers also seized a FN type gun with 20 rounds of ammunition, one “air soft gun” weapon, and two cars,” Adjunct Senior Commisioner Guntur Aryo Tejo, the Head Public Relation of Riau Police, stated.

He pointed out that two suspects, named Supriya and Sutiman, were arrested on Friday, July 24, at around 11.00 a.m. in Kuantan Regency Paradise residential, Pekanbaru City. It had been gunfire for 45 minutes in operating arrest until police were forced to paralyze the two suspects on legs.

According to Tejo, the operation began after police received information that Pekanbaru has become one of the drugs markets, in addition to a number of other areas in Sumatra.

“The perpetrators claimed they were ready to deliver drugs in bulk orders to several cities in Sumatra, including Lampung, Bengkulu, Riau, Palembang, Aceh, and Medan,” he remarked.

Following their receiving this information, the officers conducted an investigation and obtained the identity of the suspects.

“Then, the officers went undercover to successfully convince the suspects to provide 10,000 ecstasy pillsand a kilogram of meth valued at Rp1.5 billion,” Tejo explained.

Both suspects, who are drug dealers from North Sumatra and Rokan Hilir, believed the officers order to provide ecstasy and methamphetamine. But, the suspects only agreed to provide half of the order, amounting to 5,000 thousand ecstasy pills and a half kilogram of crystal methamphetamine.

Regarding the investigation, the drug dealers claimed that they received the methamphetamine from Malaysia. Both suspects and the evidence are now being held in Pekanbaru Police Resort Station for further investigation.

Riau has been the entrance point of large quantities of illicit drugs, such as crystal methamphetamine and cannabis, coming from neighboring countries. Antara reported, since the beginning of the year and through mid-2015, that officers had confiscated not less than 76.5 kilograms of methamphetamine valued at hundreds of billions of rupiah were smuggled from Malaysia through Dumai and Rokan Hillir.

Brigadier General Dolly Bambang Hermawan, the Riau Police Chief, said the length of Riaus coastline helped in the smuggling from Malaysia. Following this, he said he was determined to continue to intensify surveillance in order to minimize the entry of contraband into Riau.
