Internal Audit Customs, TDAP join hands to resolve gold smuggling cases

KARACHI: The Director General of Directorate of Internal Audit Customs met with the Vice President of Trade and Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) here on Wednesday.

According to details, both the officers discussed issuance of fake Form-E in large number in gold smuggling cases. During the meeting, the DG Internal Audit Customs Rubina Wasti asked the Vice President TDAP to ensure the authenticity of Form-E and also detect fake Form-E, so that the customs authorities can push forward its investigation into gold smuggling case.

In the meeting, both the high officers of the Federal Government were on the same page in order to scrutinize the number of issuance of fake Form-E, adding that the DG Internal Audit Customs wanted full support and cooperation with the TDAP in order to give final touch to the smuggling case linked with the export of gold.

The sources informed Customs Today that the export of gold was being continued on fake Form-E and large numbers of fake Form-E had been issued from different private banks. Internal Audit Customs on the directives of FBR concerned authorities has started to investigate the gold scam case amounting to 250-300 billion Rs.

Pakistan Customs authorities are still working to investigate the gold smuggling case and also scrutinize the import data with the re-export of gold. The sources further disclosed that the Customs authorities during its investigation into gold scam case have reached on some sensational findings, which would be disclosed before media in upcoming days. Influential businessmen and exporters are involved in gold smuggling scam and the Custom authorities will disclose their names after concluding the investigation thoroughly, they added.
