Int’l moot on energy held: Mamnoon terms sustainable energy lifeline for uplift

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain inaugurated International Conference on Energy Systems and Policies (ICESP) here at Air University.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, President Mamnoon Hussain linked socioeconomic development to sustainable energy production system, saying that the government was committed to taking effective measures to ensure sustained clean, secure, affordable and environment-friendly energy.

He said that the government was well aware of the enormity of energy shortage, adding that deficiencies in energy generation, terrorism and corruption had been eating away the country’s resources, causing serious setbacks to economic and social progress. The president termed energy lifeline for national economy.

Mamnoon Hussain underscored the need for initiating national awareness programmes on energy conservation and its efficient use for optimal utilisation of energy resources.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief of Air Staff Tahir Rafique Butt said that energy related issues of the country needed to be resolved. The air chief, who is also the Chairman of Board of Directors of Air University, stressed that the solution lies in conservation, management and generation of energy in an effective manner.

Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Mukhtar said the country was faced with challenges from energy crisis to scarcity of water and food.
