“Quick and easy checks can be made online by consumers through the Customs’ portal by following four steps,” he said in a statement.

First, visit www.customs.gov.my, click on the “Lookup GST Status” icon and type in the 12 digit GST ID (found on bills or invoices of the business) and press “enter”.

Data including GST Number, Taxpayer’s Name, Commence Date and Status will appear on the screen.

Consumers can complain to the nearest Customs Department, call 1-300-888-500 or via Aduan GST at www.customs.gov.my.

In Pagoh, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the Government would hear out all the public complaints about the GST.

He had directed the Customs Department and the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry to beef up their operations and handle the complaints effectively via their call centres.

“We anticipate a higher number of complaints during the first few days of GST,” he said.

“If possible, the two agencies should increase the number of personnel to handle the complaints and give a better understanding to the public on the GST,” he told reporters at the wedding reception of his daughter Najwa Muhyiddin and Idris Koh Keng Hui here the other day.
