LONDON: The iPod touch 6th generation remains a mystery draped inside a Tim Cook enigma, as Apple continues to treat the new model – and at this position the whole product line – as if it didn’t be present. The Apple Watch, still extra popularly called to as the iWatch despite that name having been dismissed by Cupertino, has an official (if non-specific) release date which could still move before it’s all said and done. For those plotting their next Apple purchase, the question now must be asked: which one of the two can be expected to surface first.
Apple continues to confound its audience by remaining mum on the iPod touch 6th generation. If it were to spring the new model on the market in time for the holiday season it would have done so by now, which points to a 2015 launch instead. But why is Apple waiting? The most logical answer is that, because the iPhone 6 is selling at unprecedented levels and Apple can’t keep up, it doesn’t want to divert any of its contracted factories (or any of the various shared components) to iPod touch 6 manufacturing. So instead it’s continuing to manufacture and sell the iPod touch 5, which is instead more similar to not-in-demand iPhone 5C. So what about the Apple Watch?
apple says the iWatch will surface in the spring of 2015, giving app developers time to get their ducks in a row before the launch. That points to a press event in February or March to officially push the smartwatch out the door. Our best guess is that the iPod touch 6th generation arrives alongside it at that event, and the two end up sharing the same release date. The bigger question at that point will be whether the new iPod touch is made to work with the Watch, or whether that compatbility will be reserved strictly for the iPhone.
