Japan stocks close stronger, Nikkei 225 climbs 0.30%

TOKYO: Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Rubber sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.30% to hit a new all time high.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5301), which rose 4.32% or 15.0 points to trade at 362.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (TOKYO:2282) added 3.84% or 100.0 points to end at 2701.0 and SUMCO Corp. (TOKYO:3436) was up 3.55% or 61.0 points to 1780.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings (TOKYO:8725), which fell 2.83% or 110.0 points to trade at 3770.5 at the close. Pioneer Corp. (TOKYO:6773) declined 2.18% or 5.0 points to end at 224.0 and Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (TOKYO:2802) was down 2.14% or 55.0 points to 2521.0.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1096 to 783 and 4 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 7.09% to 17.42 a new 6-months low.

Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.02% or 0.01 to $60.71 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $66.52 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.31% or 3.70 to trade at $1207.80 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.23% to 120.76, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 134.69.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.32% at 95.17.
