TOKYO: Japan’s inflation-adjusted gross domestic product grew 0.4% on the month in August, expanding for a third straight month, estimates by the nongovernmental Japan Center for Economic Research showed Monday.
Consumer spending, extrapolated from data such as the official household expenditures survey and new-car sales, climbed 1%, the first gain in three months. Capital spending rose 0.3%. Overall, domestic demand contributed 0.5 percentage points of GDP growth. External demand made virtually no contribution, with exports falling 0.3% while imports dropped 0.1%.
