Kavitha asks govt to construct dry port near Armoor

MUMBAI: Member of Parliament K. Kavitha has said that she made a request to the Centre to construct a dry port in the district so as to give a boost to economic activity with many commercial crops being grown in the region.

Dry port, if sanctioned, will be built between Armoor and Balkonda. It would have very good rail and road connectivity and the Government could also allot suitable land for the purpose. “I have met the Union Minister Ms. Nirmala Seetharam and placed the proposal before her”, she said while talking to mediapersons, here on Tuesday.

Earlier, on her arrival along with the SCR General Manager P.K. Srivastava and Divisional Manager Aruna Singh in a special train at the railway station here, she laid foundation for an elevator, R.O plant and inaugurated the automatic ticket vending machine.

“Peddapally-Nizamabad railway line, the two decade old dream of north Telangana people will be fulfilled by March-end as with the coordinated effort with the SCR authorities I could get Rs.140 crore sactioned this year”, she added.

“But for the efforts of Ms. Kavitha we could not get have got sanction for the huge amount for the speedy completion of the new railway line. Some minor problems relating to the land acquisition are there and the line probably would become operational by coming March”, said the General Manager.

He said that a number of facilities would come up in the Nizamabad railway station to make it a model one. The proposed facilities included two water coolers with eight taps on each side on Platform-I and II, an R.O plant, another foot-over bridge, high mast lighting, parking lots in front of the station, beautification of station premises and so on.

Booking office would be renovated and railway station upgraded. Similarly, an enquiry counter would be opened at Kamareddy railway station, he said and claimed that the Passenger and Customer Facilitation Fortnight conducted with the appeal to passengers to cooperate with the railways to keep coaches and stations clean for a pleasant travel from May 26 to June 9 evoked wonderful response.
