KARACHI: The Karachi business community has urged Federal Board of Revenue to give them details of Income Tax, Sales Tax and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) collected from taxpayers of the metropolis during the fiscal year of 2013-14.

Expressing concern over selection of taxpayers for audit through computer balloting, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) President Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra has further asked FBR Chairman Tariq Bajwa to make public the details of Karachi-based taxpayers selected for audit, adding “The Board should not carry out such action in future and it must consult with Karachi business community to resolve the issue.”

Vohra said that FBR should take action against those who had not declared their assets, rather disturbing the people who pay their taxes regularly. “FBR should take measures and make intensive efforts for broadening tax base by identifying new taxpayers and getting them into the tax net,” he added.

The KCCI president lamented that despite contributing 65 per cent to total revenue of Pakistan, very little is spent on development of Karachi’s poor infrastructure, law & order situation and provision of utilities to the large number of industries and businesses of the city.
