LONDON: Korean carmaker, Kia has unveiled its Sportspace, a concept that is perhaps a less-than-subtle memo to Hyundai that sporty styling is the red brand’s domain.

Destined for next month’s Geneva Motor Show, the Sportspace is positioned as a roomy long-distance tourer committed to getting fans there in style.

Inside users will find a spacious minimalist cabin design, headlined by a deep-dish racing wheel and a pair of fully digital displays. (But, despite playing up the wagon factor, there are no views yet of the seating and storage…)

“We set out to design a car that is a totally new breed of grand tourer – one for active people who need reasonable cargo space on the weekend, but don’t want to compromise moving around in style, comfort and with an element of sportiness,” Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer for Kia Europe, said.

Is it a preview of a new wagon variant in the next-generation Optima line? It very likely is, but for now, Kia isn’t saying anything about a production future.
