KUNDUZ CITY: Transport officials in northern Kunduz province say their department’s revenue recorded a 31 percent increase during the outgoing solar year. However, local residents say they’re not satisfied with transport services.
Sayed Jawad Jalali, Kunduz transport director, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Ministry of Finance had set them 13 million afghanis target, but they collected more than 18 million afghanis, showing 31 percent surge over last year’s 13 million afs — up compared to previous years.
He said his department’s revenue came from transportation services, transit fee, fines and some other areas.
“Despite no good situation, imports from Tajikistan increased our’s department’s revenue significantly,” said Jalali said, adding their revenue in the past years had been ‘very little’ due to security problems, but tangibly increased this solar year, that ends on March 21.
On the other hand, Kunduz City residents are unsatisfied with transport department’s services.
Abdul Rauf, who drives between Kunduz City and Imam Sahib district, said: “There is no car parking area in the city, the transport department should solve this problem.”
A shopkeeper in Kunduz City, Shamsuddin, said: “Drivers park their vehicles on roads, which creates traffic problems. There should be a specific area for parking vehicles.”
A number of other residents of Kunduz City held similar views.
But Jalali said they planned to construct a large parking lot for vehicles north of Kunduz City with the help of private sector to solve the parking problem.
He said the transport minister had ordered provision of land to the private sector free of cost for the proposed terminal.
